i kept my story pretty simple, it's just about a character walking around and finding characters in nature. planning it was easier than i thought it would be and even though i felt i didn't have enough imagery to work with.
even though i liked my initial palette i felt that i was continuously using the same colours i'd used for previous briefs. luckily i accidentally changed the hues of my drawings and it made it so much better! the purples and the yellow tones were colours i probably wouldn't have chosen myself initially but i really like how they work together. changing the hue changed the mood of the images and to me it kinda makes it feel like it's late in the evening when the sun is setting. makes me feel good, i like it a lot.
in terms of polishing my drawings using multiply to add colour underneath is a good way of going about it - will definitely keep doing this to push my drawings further.
front and back covers
final reflections
i'm really happy with my final zine. i feel like i did a good job at translating how contemplation occurs as well as translating the way i like to see the world. i see in this book as well a link between contemplation and creativity - both in the sense that the main character is using their imagination and finding other little characters in nature as well as how just being outside sparked up my own creativity.
i think i finally struck a balance between making something that is visually and stylistically what i wanted it to be but also tells a story that is grounded in research and heartfelt. usually my ideas fall behind the aesthetics of my work and i really feel like this isn't the case here.
i really like the front cover - i edited one of the pictures i took on my field trip to use as a background and wrote the title using photoshop paintbrushes. it works but i feel like i didn't plan it enough - could have explored other possibilities!
the pages i feel have worked best were the ones where i included drawings i did from observation - i need to do that more often because it adds value to my drawings!! more observed and less stylised is also needed!
