studio brief 2 reflective report

reflections
i set myself the task of doing 3 prints instead of a publication as it is something different to what i'd usually go for.
i think for me, it was still important to work sequentially within them in order to tell the story i wanted to tell.
looking at my sketchbook, i know that those small comic strips were the ones that translated the stories in the book the best.
in retrospect i wish i had explored the possibilities of these prints a bit further. i'm happy with the two prints of the goddess but the cat one seems to be the odd one out. even though there is a clear line of consistency in them with the colour palettes and tonal range, the content itself makes the cat print not flow as well with the other two.
besides that it's the one i struggled with the most during the printing process. my positives weren't contrasting enough which resulted in the prints turning out more faded than i wanted them to be.
the colours i mixed were also questionable - can def see that i was tired of printing by the time i got to this one.
but i gave myself two versions of the final print elements and i'm so happy i did that because i feel like it allowed me to work in two different ways - i was able to push myself to print but also got to do a lot of photoshop work which is always fun for me.

overall as a series i think i prefer the digital versions of my prints.
i think the colours are brighter, the textures more defined and overall as a series they flow a bit better in this format.
despite them being put together on photoshop, i'm really happy with the fact that i was able to retain those handmade and printmaking textures in the final prints. the monotype textures coming through give the simple ink drawings a lot more depth - and break away from block digital colour which isn't my personal taste.
this process and way of working is definitely something i'd like to carry through to future briefs.
i'm so glad i got to try screenprinting though, and my experience doing so was a lot more positive than it had been previously - not scared of the print room anymore which is always a good thing!!

i think that in the future, i'd like to explore more possibilities through screenprinting. i enjoyed the process a lot more this time but it would be nice to spend some more time exploring and perfecting it.
i def need to gain more insight in terms of making sure the positives are good and i think that only comes with practice - need to stop expecting to be good at something i haven't put much time into!!!
